4. Drug Delivery Effect

Researches on the drug delivery effects of microneedles are being conducted in many countries worldwide. It was found that microneedles sharply increase the drug transmittance in the body and the transmittance is affected by factors such as the shape of microneedles, the features of drugs, and applied materials or parts. To find out the drug delivery effect when using our microneedles, our company is conducting a joint research with Pharmaceutical Laboratory at Chungnam National University.

The drug delivery effect of a microneedle patch
The drug delivery test with a diffusion cell showed that microneedles increase the amount of drug delivery. The microneedle patch with the height of 0.5mm had better efficiency than the one with 0.2mm height. With respect to the density, the denser the needle gets, the better the drug delivery effect. (Compared patches whose density were 45, 99, 154 ea/cm2 each)

The effect of immune response inducement of microneedle patches
We conducted antigen/antibody tests using Ovalbumin(OVA) to find out whether immune reaction was induced when vaccine was transmitted to the skin by microneedles. More amount of antigen was necessary as a normal syringe because the drug was applied on the skin after putting gel type OVA on a microneedle patch. However, the problem can be solved through developing an ideal method to apply drugs on a needle. The researches found out that microneedles are effective in inducing immune reaction.
